Job Description
The Product Development Engineering Aide contributes to the development of new products and systems by supporting engineers in the design, prototyping, system testing, characterization and documentation of new products and systems. The Product Development Engineering Aide also manages and maintains the lab, equipment and component inventory as well as BOMs (Bill of Material) for PCBs.
Responsibilities- Work closely with Product Development Engineers on projects involving Vicor Power Components.
- Perform bench testing and characterization of new products and systems for datasheets, application notes, and model correlation.
- Generate test procedures and complete reports documenting the results of experiments, and testing performed on the bench.
- Rapidly prototype, troubleshoot and test new circuits and components that work with Vicor power components at a system level.
- Build complex thermal‑mechanical assemblies for air‑cooled and liquid‑cooled systems.
- Solder and rework components, ICs and mechanical assemblies to aid in testing or repair damaged components.
- Maintain laboratory and equipment, keeping records of calibrations, researching and testing new equipment, assembling equipment into test racks and managing the stock of components in the lab.
- Aid in the generation of new schematics and PCB designs, create and maintain BOMs (Bill of Material) and work closely with either contract manufacturers or operations to assemble PCBAs.
- Write ECO, IAS and other documentation control requests.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or 5+ years experience as technician, technical aide, or engineering aide.
- Familiarity with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.).
- Proficiency soldering and reworking small surface‑mount components with good accuracy and cleanliness; IPC J‑STD‑001 soldering certification a plus.
- Ability to methodically approach tasks and projects, manage time, and document results and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD and office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc., especially Altium) a plus.
- Experience working with high‑voltage DC/DC or AC/DC power supplies and power systems is a plus.
- Experience designing or assembling thermal‑mechanical systems including liquid cooling is a plus.

CompensationSalary Range: $63,000 - $75,000
