The Systems Engineering & Test Capabilities team is seeking a highly motivated Principal Systems Engineer to lead technical simulation operations and maintenance support for the Flight Mission Simulator (FMS) used in Patriot test programs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in system integration and testing. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge missile defense technologies in a collaborative and innovative environment.
What You Will Do
Provide technical simulation operations and maintenance support for Flight Mission Simulator (FMS) issues and troubleshooting.
Troubleshoot and resolve simulation hardware issues to maintain mission-capable performance for Patriot programs.
Provide leadership and technical expertise to Patriot lab personnel and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) teams.
Lead onsite activities including integration and test preparation, test execution, data analysis, and issue resolution for other Hardware-in-the-Loop assets.
Serve as a subject matter expert for root-cause identification and resolution of system anomalies, system performance assessments, and cross-functional engineering coordination to support overall system capability development and checkout.
Collaborate with team members across multiple engineering disciplines, including Hardware, Software, Mechanical, and Systems Integration and Test.
Support continuous improvement by identifying hardware issues, troubleshooting effectively, and clearly documenting all actions and steps taken.
Mentor and support the technical growth of peers and junior engineers, identifying opportunities to enhance team technical acumen.
Demonstrate strong analytical, technical, and problem‑solving skills.
Work onsite at our RTX facility in Andover, MA. Occasional second‑shift hours may be required to support testing.
Travel up to 10% domestically.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
Experience with systems software, systems hardware, systems requirements, systems integration, and/or systems testing.
Experience working in a test facility, integration lab, depot, and/or field environment.
Experience developing or troubleshooting simulations, including evaluating Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation systems.
Qualifications We Prefer
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage integrated product teams and interface effectively with the DoD customer community.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including hands‑on root‑cause identification, corrective action implementation, and verification.
Experience identifying and troubleshooting hardware issues and thoroughly documenting all actions taken.
