The Andover Companies, located in Andover, Massachusetts, is seeking a Claims Examiner (Liability Claims) to join our team. The Claims Examiner role is responsible for the supervision and technical analysis of liability claims arising out of homeowner, landlord, business owner, and umbrella insurance policies issued by The Andover Companies. The Claims Examiner directs all phases of the claims process including investigation, coverage determination, damage evaluation, settlement, and legal defense.
In this role you will examine claims to ensure that proper guidelines and processes have been followed, and claim service expectations have been met. By effectively managing independent adjusters, defense firms and experts, the examiner provides claims support and service to our policyholders, independent agents, and the company. We employ confident, self-starting, highly motivated individuals who display high energy, intelligence, integrity and the natural curiosity that is fundamental to the handling of liability claims, the claims process, and to departmental and company goals.
Functions
- Evaluate and confirm policy coverage.
- Evaluate and direct investigation.
- Assign and direct independent adjusters, experts, and counsel as needed.
- Manage adjustment and litigation and legal costs.
- Set and modify coverage reserves and maintain timely diary of case assignments.
- Control claim negotiations and settlement and authorize payment and/or settlement requests.
- Verify all required regulations and administrative code claim handling requirements are observed.
- Attend mediations, trials or depositions as required.
- Analyze and respond to consumer and insurance department complaints.
- Collaborate on special Claims or Company projects.
- Assist other Claims Examiners during catastrophes, vacations, and/or medical leave.
- Develop professionally with continuous insurance and claims education.
- Technical Proficiency resolving liability claims.
- Technical knowledge of insurance policy coverages, regulations and legal theories.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree and five years or more of Liability claims handling experience.
- State specific Adjuster License as required.
