Course
Description:
NUR 5220:
Epidemiology for Advanced Nursing Practice
This course explores foundational epidemiologic principles essential to advanced population health nursing practice. Students evaluate patterns of health and disease distribution and examine determinants of health affecting varying populations. Emphasis is placed on interpreting epidemiologic data to identify priority populations and health disparities, and on analyzing data sources for validity, reliability, and potential bias. Students apply epidemiologic evidence to population health planning, program evaluation, and the development of health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
The course also examines the role of epidemiology in informing evidence-based policy. Through applied analysis, students integrate epidemiologic findings into population health practice to improve outcomes across communities and systems of care.
Responsibilities:
* Facilitate and teach an eight-week online graduate nursing course.
* Engage students through active online learning strategies, discussion facilitation, and timely feedback.
* Evaluate student performance using established course assignments and grading rubrics.
* Support student achievement and professional development.
* Maintain regular communication with students and program leadership.
* Participate in faculty orientation and required program meetings as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
* Active, unencumbered RN license in the United States and eligibility for Massachusetts RN licensure prior to the Spring 2027 course start date.
* Graduate-level expertise in epidemiology, population health, public health, community health, health policy, or related field.
* Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience.
* Experience using healthcare, public health, or population-level data to inform practice.
* Strong written communication and online teaching skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, EdD, or related discipline).
* Prior experience teaching in graduate nursing or other health professions programs.
* Experience teaching epidemiology, biostatistics, population health, public/community health, healthcare research, or related graduate-level courses.
* Certification and/or demonstrated expertise in public health, population health, quality improvement, healthcare analytics, or evidence-based practice.
* Experience in asynchronous remote learning management systems to support student-centered instruction.
