Associate Engineer, RNA Starting Material MS&TRole Overview
The Associate Engineer, RNA Starting Material MS&T will work in a team focused on lab-scale organic synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of nucleoside-based and lipid building blocks for Sarepta’s phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomers (PMOs), next-generation PMOs, and siRNA platforms. The role involves synthesizing reference markers/standards, participating in supervised RNA starting materials manufacturing process chemistry development and scale-up projects, optimizing and troubleshooting syntheses, and providing cross-functional training and data interpretation with Analytical/QC resources.
Responsibilities- Support commercial supply assurance for RNA starting materials by synthesizing nucleoside reference markers/standards.
- Execute development studies independently or as part of a team under supervision.
- Assess scalability of proposed changes and execute experiments to mimic large-scale operational impacts.
- Participate in technology transfer of improved processes to manufacturing sites.
- Conduct synthesis and purification (chromatography) of nucleoside analogs to support production and development goals.
- Collaborate to characterize and manage impurity profiles of intermediates.
- Use scientific judgment to determine likely source and fate of newly identified impurities and design experiments to test hypotheses.
- Compile and interpret data, document study results, and present data and conclusions.
- Participate in vendor update meetings and provide input on ongoing vendor production projects.
- B.S. (required) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- 0–2 years of related experience.
- Technical competence in organic chemistry and familiarity with GC, LC-MS, HPLC, NMR, and KF instrumentation.
- Experience running HPLC methods is strongly preferred.
- Ability to handle multi-task workload and perform effectively under deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- May require less than 5 % infrequent domestic and/or international travel.
Work location:
on-site at one of Sarepta’s facilities in the United States. The targeted salary range for this position is $62,000–$77,500 per year. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
