Position Summary:
Lead and manage the company’s maintenance shop for a landscape services business. Responsible for hands‑on repair, preventative maintenance, diagnostics and emergency repairs of a mixed fleet (gas and diesel trucks, pickups, service bodies), small engines (mowers, blowers, trimmers, skid‑steer attachments), and winter equipment (snow plows, salters). Supervise shop workflow, inventory, safety, and documentation to maximize uptime and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs on gas and diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulics and cooling systems for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Service and repair small engines and power equipment (commercial mowers, zero‑turns, walk‑behinds, trimmers, blowers, generators).
- Install, maintain and repair snow plows, spreaders/salters, hydraulic controls and wiring; prepare vehicles for winter operations.
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on fleet vehicles and equipment; manage PM schedules and records.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and field repairs; provide on-call support during storms or peak seasons.
- Oversee daily shop operations: prioritize work orders, assign tasks, track labor and parts, ensure timely turnaround.
- Manage parts inventory, order supplies, negotiate with vendors, and maintain cost controls.
- Enforce shop safety and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Keep accurate maintenance logs, service records, inspection reports and report vehicle status to operations.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years combined experience as a fleet mechanic and small‑engine technician; landscape industry experience strongly preferred.
- Proven experience working on gas and diesel trucks, commercial small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
- Demonstrated experience with snow plows, spreaders/salters and winterization procedures.
- Prior supervisory or lead role managing a shop or team preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to perform emergency field repairs.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficient with electronic diagnostic tools, basic shop management software, and computerized maintenance records.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in varied weather, and be available for on‑call shifts during winter/peak periods.
Preferred
Certifications:
- ASE certifications (Medium/Heavy Truck, Auto, or A Series) or equivalent.
- Small Engine Technician certification.
- Hydraulic and electrical system certifications.
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training.
