Role OverviewWe are seeking a Data Center Technical Operations Engineer to support day-to-day facility operations. This role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including risk management, corrective and preventative maintenance, and vendor coordination. The engineer will help ensure plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Support routine and emergency response activities for critical systems.
- Perform or coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance on facility equipment.
- Coordinate work performed by technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring adherence to established procedures.
- Support vendor management, asset tracking, and inventory management activities.
- Establish operational benchmarks and assist with analysis and metric reporting.
- Partner with IT managers and business leaders on projects related to capacity, safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Assist with facility improvements, equipment upgrades, and potential build-out projects.
- Experience:
0 to 2 years of relevant work experience is required. Candidates with military technical training, or backgrounds in trade school, facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or HVAC are encouraged to apply. Foundational experience or training in electrical systems (troubleshooting, power distribution, switch gear, generators, UPS systems) and mechanical systems (troubleshooting, critical facility equipment, cooling infrastructure) is necessary. - Education:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A technical degree from a military or trade school, or a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is also acceptable. - Core
Skills:
The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills, leadership potential, and organizational skills. Candidates must have attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a complex, fast-paced environment. Safety awareness and a customer-service mindset are essential.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in Data Center Engineering or Data Center Management.
- A Journeyman license or specific HVAC experience.
- Experience with chillers, cooling towers, CRAC or CRAH units, or building monitoring systems.
- A fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage copper or fiber cabling.
