School District Police Officer
Department: School District Police Department
Reports to: Chief of Police
Status: Exempt
Salary: Per District Compensation Plan
Work Calendar: 206 Days (District Assigned)
Primary PurposeProvide a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors by enforcing federal, state, and local laws, Board policies, and district regulations. Deter criminal activity, protect life and property, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and foster positive relationships with the community.
Qualifications- Citizen of the United States or honorably discharged Veteran with documentation allowing residency and employment in the U.S.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Licensed Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Maintain all TCOLE training and licensing requirements.
- Successful completion of district hiring standards, background investigation, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- May be required to complete a department-approved employment physical and be declared in writing by healthcare providers to be physically sound and free from any defect that would adversely affect performance as a peace officer.
- Honesty and integrity are paramount; any willful omission, misrepresentation, falsification or other action that obscures factual information or misleads investigators shall be cause for immediate termination from consideration.
- No current court-ordered community service or probation for any criminal offense.
- No conviction of a misdemeanor classified as "Class B" within the last ten (10) years in any state or federal court.
- No conviction of intoxication offenses defined by Texas Penal Code Title 10 chapters 49.04, 49.05, 49.06 within the last ten years.
- No conviction of a felony offense or its equivalent "Class A" misdemeanor.
- No conviction of a family violence offense.
- No pending criminal charges.
- No excessive traffic tickets or accidents.
- Good moral character.
- Honorably discharged from all military service, or provide proof of acceptable re-enlistment eligibility if prior service is uncharacterized.
- Successfully pass a polygraph examination when requested.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws applicable to school policing.
- Knowledge of the Texas Education Code and juvenile laws.
- Ability to investigate criminal offenses and prepare detailed reports.
- Skill in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to operate law enforcement equipment and technology.
- Strong public relations, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to handle extreme stress and danger.
- Integrity and honesty in duty performance.
- Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
- Experience working with youth or in an educational environment preferred.
- School-Based Law Enforcement Proficiency (SBLE) preferred.
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws on district property and at district-sponsored events.
- Patrol district campuses, facilities, and grounds to deter criminal activity and enhance safety.
- Respond to calls for service, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and security concerns.
- Conduct investigations involving criminal offenses, policy violations, and safety incidents.
- Prepare accurate reports, statements, citations, affidavits, and other required documentation.
- Collect, preserve, and document evidence according to legal standards.
- Make arrests and take enforcement action when authorized by law and department policy.
- Testify in court and administrative proceedings as required.
- Assist with the implementation and enforcement of district safety and security plans.
- Conduct security inspections and identify potential safety hazards.
- Participate in emergency management planning, drills, and response activities.
- Provide security during school functions, athletic events, and extracurricular activities.
- Assist with threat assessments and campus emergency operations.
- Develop positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for students.
- Support behavioral intervention and conflict resolution efforts.
- Present educational programs on safety, crime prevention, bullying, substance abuse, internet safety, and related topics.
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and outside agencies.
- Complete all required reports and records in a timely manner.
- Maintain department-issued equipment, uniforms, and vehicles.
- Attend required training and professional development.
- Comply with district policies, department directives, and applicable laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee.
