Work Calendar: 206 Days (District Assigned)

Primary

Purpose:

Provide a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors by
enforcing federal, state, and local laws, Board policies, and district regulations. Deter
criminal activity, protect life and property, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents,
and foster positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification
Be a citizen of the United States or be an honorably discharged Veteran and be able to provide documentation which
authorizes them to reside and work in the United States
High School Diploma or GED
Licensed Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Valid Texas Driver License.
Ability to maintain all TCOLE training and licensing requirements.

Requirements:
  • Successful completion of district hiring standards, background investigation, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • May be required to successfully complete a department approved employment physical and be declared in writing by health care providers to be physically sound and free from any defect which may adversely affect the applicant's performance of duty as a peace officer.
  • Honesty and integrity are integral to the character of all AISD Police Department employees, therefore any willful omission, misrepresentation, falsification or other action by the applicant that is determined to obscure factual information or mislead investigators shall be cause for immediate termination of the applicant from further consideration.
  • Not be currently on court ordered community service or probation for any criminal offense.
  • Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor of the classification "Class B", or its equivalent, within the last ten (10) years in any state or federal court.
  • Not have been convicted of intoxication offenses as defined by the Texas Penal code,
  • Title 10, Chapter 49.04, 49.05 and 49.06 with the last ten years.
  • Not have been convicted at any time of a felony offense, or its equivalent "Class A" misdemeanor, or its equivalent in any county, state or federal court.
  • Not have been convicted at any time of an offense of family violence.
  • Not have any criminal charges pending.
  • Not have excessive traffic tickets or accidents.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Have been honorable discharged from any and all military service or provide proof
  • of acceptable military re-enlistment eligibility if prior service is uncharacterized.
  • Successfully pass a polygraph examination (when requested)
Special Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws applicable to school policing.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Education Code and juvenile laws.
  • Ability to investigate criminal offenses and prepare detailed reports.
  • Skill in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to operate law enforcement equipment and technology.
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to deal with situations of extreme stress and danger.
  • Ability to carry out duties with integrity and honesty.
  • Experience
  • Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Experience working with youth or in an educational environment preferred.
  • School-Based Law Enforcement Proficiency (SBLE) preferred
Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Law Enforcement Operations
1. Enforce federal, state, and local laws on district property and at district-sponsored events.
2. Patrol district campuses, facilities, and grounds to deter criminal activity and enhance safety.
3. Respond to calls for service, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and security concerns.
4. Conduct investigations involving criminal offenses, policy violations, and safety incidents.
5. Prepare accurate reports, statements, citations, affidavits, and other required documentation.
6. Collect, preserve, and document evidence according to legal standards.
7. Make arrests and take enforcement action when authorized by law and department policy.
8. Testify in court and administrative proceedings as required.

School Safety and Security:
1. Assist with the implementation and enforcement of district safety and security plans.
2. Conduct security inspections and identify potential safety hazards.
3. Participate in emergency management planning, drills, and response activities.
4. Provide security during school functions, athletic events, and extracurricular activities.
5. Assist with threat assessments and campus emergency operations.

Student and Community Relations:
1. Develop positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
2. Serve as a resource and mentor for students.
3. Support behavioral intervention and conflict resolution efforts.
