Summary

The Municipal Court Technician provides quality customer service while performing clerical duties in the Municipal Court. The Technician must be able to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers, provide courteous service, and remain professional in all interactions. Each employee must represent the Municipal Court by making ethical decisions in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the ordinances of the City of Angleton with prudence, integrity, and impartiality.

Required to pass a criminal background check successfully.
Must be Bondable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The statements below describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified in this position.   • Maintain the Municipal Court database accurately and efficiently, including monitoring and updating case status as cases progress through the judicial system.
  • Assist with data entry of citations and all other complaints filed in the court.
  • Record the case disposition, court orders, and arrangements for payment of court fines.
  • Receive and process cash bond payments along with all other documents and paperwork from the police department.
  • Follow procedures as scheduled, including preparing an accurate arraignment docket and preparing and mailing court dates and default notices.
  • Process incoming mail daily.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with customers.
  • Maintain and file pending and closed cases.
  • Maintain and balance the cash drawer daily.
  • Notify defendants and jurors of court appearances.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to accurately prioritize work assignments and trials.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; accurate keyboarding skills required.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and oral communication skills professionally.
  • Work at a fast pace in a high-stress, challenging environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Uphold the Court Clerk's Code of Ethics.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Training (Certification/Licensure)

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this positions essential duties and responsibilities is listed below. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of general business experience required
  • Experience working with the public is preferred
  • One-year cashier/teller experience preferred
  • Knowledge of municipal court functions and procedures preferred
