Construction Inspector I

Position based in Angleton, TX, within TxDOT's Brazoria Area Office. The role involves inspecting construction methods and workmanship of roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports, and related structures to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

As a construction inspector, you will:

• Attend pre‑construction meetings and answer contractor questions.
• Calculate payments due contractors for completed work.
• Consult with project engineers, resident project representatives and contractor superintendents on work progress and resolve construction problems.
• Ensure contractors build roadway, bridge and related highway or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Monitor project phasing, traffic control plans, and airport closure plans and ensure compliance with approved safety standards; inspect barricades and move traffic control devices as required.
• Observe and inspect ongoing construction work, documenting progress and issues throughout the project scope.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum salary: $45,521.00; maximum salary: $71,055.00. Pay basis: yearly.

Work schedule:

Day shift, 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work when the contractor is working. Travel:
Yes, 10 % of the time. Position requires on‑site work at Brazoria Area Engineer/S.Braz Maint 18671 FM 523 Angleton 77515.

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required. College education or technical training may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
• License / Certification: Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
