Crisis Intervention Deputy

Crisis Intervention Deputy performs specialized crisis intervention and law enforcement support duties involving individuals experiencing emotional, mental health, or behavioral crises. Responds to calls for service to assess situations, de-escalate conflicts, and determine appropriate intervention strategies. Coordinates with mental health providers, hospitals, and psychiatric facilities to facilitate evaluation, placement, and treatment services. Provides safe transportation of individuals in crisis and court-ordered patients, maintains accurate and confidential documentation, and conducts follow-up contacts to support continuity of care.

Responds to calls for service from citizens and local agencies throughout the County to de-escalate situations involving individuals experiencing emotional, mental, or physical crises;
Conducts interviews and assessments of individuals in crisis to determine appropriate intervention and support;
Coordinates with psychiatric facilities and healthcare providers to facilitate placement, admission, and treatment services;
Safely transports individuals in crisis and court-ordered patients to hospitals and psychiatric facilities throughout the State of Texas;
Conducts follow-up contacts with individuals to help ensure continuity of care and adherence to recommended treatment plans following release from psychiatric facilities;
Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential records for all individuals contacted by Crisis Intervention Team personnel, in accordance with applicable laws and policies;
Performs additional duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Sheriff's Office.

To perform this position successfully, an individual(s) shall possess the following knowledge and skills in order to perform the essential functions proficiently. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the local and state criminal justice system. Intermediate proficiency with modern office equipment and procedures. Ability to become proficient in all County and Department policies and procedures. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a constantly changing work environment. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned decisions under high-stress conditions. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to foster productive, cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, external partners, public officials, and the general public.

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position are listed below. The County reserves the right to consider higher levels of education in lieu of training and experience and vice-versa. Basic Peace Officer License Minimum One (1) Year Patrol Experience Applicants must be able to meet all of the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for employment.

21 Years of age or older High school diploma or G.E.D. Possess a valid Texas Driver's License Be a United States Citizen (Born or Naturalized) Have a working cell phone No more than 20/200 vision that is correctable to 20/20;
No convictions or court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order;
Honorable Discharge from Military Service (If applicable)
