The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking applicants for the position of Health Information Coordinator 1–3, a position that plays an important role in supporting the facility's medical operations through the management and organization of health records and medical information. This position is responsible for maintaining medical records, ensuring documentation is properly filed and recorded, protecting confidential health information, and assisting medical and administrative staff with records management and information tracking.
The Health Information Coordinator helps ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and privacy regulations while supporting the daily operations of the medical department. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this position. One year of experience in administrative services; OR One year of training in or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the required general experience.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Complete orders from Physicians, Nurses, Administrators and other members of Medical Staff regarding physical and electronic medical records.
- Reviewing, scanning, indexing, uploading and attaching paper records and documents into EHR while maintaining the security and confidentiality of all health information.
- Retrieves and updates patient records upon request and maintains custody files for records removed from department.
- Performs all Medical Record functions involving physical (paper) health information records and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Work with:
Adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.
