Louisiana State Penitentiary is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as a Registered Nurse! You could join the group of other medical professionals who perform the nursing and care of inmates within a state correctional facility. Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact state to practice as a registered nurse.
Job Duties- Performs professional nurse duties that may include administration of blood and blood components, I.V. medications, parenteral nutrition, central line therapy, etc., under the close supervision of a registered nurse of a higher level.
- Assists in development of nursing plan of care for patients in assigned units.
- Makes regular patient rounds to observe and assess patients' physical conditions and behaviors and records observations on patients' charts.
- Receives and fulfills physicians' instructions regarding patient care and transmits orders, as needed, to other departments.
- Assists physicians with patient examinations and records patients' mental and physical health histories.
- Assists in emergency code situations.
- Instructs and educates patients in health and hygiene procedures and in self- administration of prescribed medications.
- Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
- Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
- An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
- This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Registered Nurse 1 has an SER of $29.84 per hour
- Registered Nurse 2 has an SER of $31.93 per hour
- Registered Nurse 3 has an SER of $34.17 per hour
