Louisiana State Penitentiary is seeking a motivated, detail‑oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as a Licensed Practical Nurse. You will join the group of medical professionals who provide nursing and care to inmates within a state correctional facility, managing a wide spectrum of conditions, from emergency response and acute trauma to chronic disease, wound care, and mental health.

• Provide direct patient care, including comfort, hygiene, safety, nutrition, and overall well‑being, under RN or senior LPN guidance.
• Monitor and assess patients, promptly reporting changes in physical or mental status to the healthcare team.
• Collect specimens, perform diagnostic tests, and accurately record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following established protocols and documenting care accurately.
• Participate in shift handovers, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication with the team.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining safety and efficiency.
• Respond to emergencies, including performing CPR and first aid as needed.
• Manage inventory and supplies, requesting and restocking medications and equipment to support patient care.

Appointment Type: Probation, or promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee. Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for promotion may be required to serve a trial detail before permanent promotion. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment; if filled as a temporary appointment, a permanent position may convert to a probational appointment when available.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

• Licensed Practical Nurse 1: SER $19.48 per hour
• Licensed Practical Nurse 2: SER $20.84 per hour
• Licensed Practical Nurse 3: SER $22.30 per hour

This position also offers premium pay at a rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.
