Corrections CADET, Sergeant, or Sgt-Master - EMT Certified

Overview

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services – Angola, LA. Position:
Correctional Officer with EMT Certification.

• Four week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
• Work closely with inmates incarcerated in a State prison facility.
• Primarily responsible for the custody and security of inmates throughout the facility, including dorms, workshops, and fields.
• Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, and perform in‑depth security searches and shakedowns of inmate’s person, property, living quarters and work locations.
• Supervise inmate work crews, patrol areas of the prison, and transport inmates as assigned.
• Follow direction given by upper level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
• Receive firearms training.
• Work in an emergency room setting to assess, treat and stabilize the sick/injured.
• Function as a triage medic to prioritize calls when multiple calls are received.
• Perform sick calls to the inmate population and assess and treat their needs.

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or one year of experience in any field.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current driver’s license.
• Must have a valid Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic EMT license and be registered with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Louisiana Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
• Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, a felony, or under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief is granted.
• Applicants found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or related conduct will be disqualified.

• Appointment Type:
  Probation, promotion of a permanent classified Louisiana state employee, or temporary job appointment.
• Current permanent status classified employees may accept a probational appointment if selected.
• Employees selected for promotion may serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• Temporary appointments may be converted to probational appointments if a permanent position becomes available.

• Start as a Corrections Cadet or, if qualified, as a Corrections Sergeant.
• Eligible for promotion to Corrections Sergeant after 6 months of successful employment.
• Eligible for promotion to Corrections Sergeant‑Master after one year of successful employment.
• After 2 years of correctional office experience and permanent status, eligible to apply for promotion to Corrections Lieutenant.

• Applicants must authorize the HR Office of the Department of Public Safety & Corrections to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
• All degrees, certificates, special licenses, and DD‑214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.
• Applicants may be required to work shift work; this is a 24‑hour facility.
