Contributes to the overall success of the Recoveries department of Scotiabank in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Ensuring the assigned repossession activities are duly completed by
: making decisions on approving storage costs, accepting payments, offering settlements, evaluating equity, assigning an account to a Third Party Supplier, etc. within the assigned Authority Limits; conducting extensive investigations and in-depth skip tracing to locate missing vehicles within a limited timeframe to prevent charge off and mitigate loss; assigning approved files to our third party vendor and providing all the proper information necessary for service level agreement vehicle assignment and recovery;
ensuring files are handled appropriately by outside agents and issued to the most cost effective bailiff in the area. - Contributing to the efficiency of the business units operations and overall profitability of the Bank, by
: recommending appropriate changes to workflows that will improve loss mitigation and repossession/redemption rates; providing reporting and analysis on portfolio trends that may impact our credit decisions; consulting with external vendors to identify and apply industry best practices; taking full responsibility for all inquiries/concerns/complaints received and providing accurate solution within assigned time frames and in adherence to Bank policy and procedure; conducting timely and constructive collection activity on customers with recently repossessed vehicles to facilitate a redemption. - Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
- Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
- Conducts payment collection activity to provide the Bank with optimal delinquency ratios and loan loss levels by: acting in a timely manner to identify the risk associated with all assigned accounts and executing prompt action to minimize loss and secure the Bank’s position; conducting timely and constructive collection activity by telephone, letter, text message, e-mail, or other appropriate means.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Previous experience in the financial services industry of experience collecting on delinquent accounts receivable.
- Minimum 5 years combined experience with vendor management, repossession assignments or a position in the automotive finance industry.
- Completion of post-secondary education program (College or University) considered an asset.
- Supervisory experience considered an asset but not necessary.
