Construction Accountant / Business Operations Manager Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Construction Accountant / Business Operations Manager to oversee the financial operations of a growing residential home builder. This is much more than a traditional accounting position; it is a strategic role responsible for creating financial systems, improving processes, monitoring job profitability, and partnering with ownership to drive informed business decisions.

The ideal candidate understands both construction accounting and residential estimating
, allowing them to accurately reconcile bids, monitor project costs, ensure vendor invoices align with estimates, and identify opportunities to improve profitability. This individual will own all accounting functions outside of tax preparation, which is managed by the company's CPA.

Experience with
Job Tread or a similar construction management platform is highly preferred.

• Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including:
• Accounts Payable
• Accounts Receivable
• Bank reconciliations
• Monthly financial reporting
• Cash flow management
• Prepare monthly financial statements for ownership.
• Coordinate with the CPA regarding year-end tax preparation and financial reporting.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

• Match vendor invoices to approved estimates, purchase orders, and project budgets.
• Verify subcontractor and supplier invoices for pricing accuracy before payment.
• Track job costs throughout construction and identify budget variances.
• Analyze labor, material, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
• Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and completed project profitability.
• Provide profitability reporting by home, community, and project.
• Ensure all project costs are accurately allocated.
• Work closely with ownership and estimating to understand project budgets and bid assumptions.
• Review estimates to ensure accounting and cost coding align with project budgets.
• Identify cost overruns early and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist in developing cost control procedures that improve margins.
• Monitor change orders and ensure they are properly documented and reflected in financial reporting.
• Track company assets and depreciation schedules.
• Monitor equipment, vehicle, and operational expenses.
• Assist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Accounting experience, preferably within residential or commercial construction.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Construction accounting
• Job costing
• CIP reporting
• Cost accounting
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Experience reconciling invoices to estimates and purchase orders.
• Understanding of residential construction estimating and budgeting.
• Experience with Job Tread, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Sage, Quick Books, or similar construction software preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to create processes and improve operational efficiency.
• Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
