Overview
We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our endodontic specialty practice in a hybrid clinical and front-desk role
. The ideal candidate is comfortable providing exceptional chairside assistance while also supporting front-office operations as needed in a small, fast-paced specialty environment.
This position requires strong clinical assisting skills, excellent patient communication, and the flexibility to support both clinical and administrative workflows. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with the doctor and team to deliver high-quality, efficient patient care while maintaining the highest standards of infection control, professionalism, and patient safety.
Clinical Responsibilities- Provide chairside assistance during endodontic procedures including root canal therapy, retreatment, and surgical procedures
- Prepare treatment rooms with appropriate instruments and materials, maintaining strict aseptic technique and infection‑control protocols
- Take and process dental radiographs, including CBCT or 3‑D imaging when applicable, ensuring proper positioning and radiation safety
- Perform expanded functions within scope of practice to support efficient clinical flow
- Monitor patient comfort, obtain vital signs when appropriate, and assist with four‑handed dentistry
- Educate patients on post‑treatment instructions and procedural expectations
- Maintain sterilization of instruments, operatory turnover, and equipment readiness
- Manage and update electronic clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards
- Assist with scheduling, confirming, and coordinating patient appointments, including same‑day emergencies
- Communicate professionally with patients, referring offices, and team members
- Support insurance verification, documentation, and basic billing workflows as needed
- Update patient records and assist with maintaining accurate electronic medical records
- Collaborate with the front office to ensure smooth daily operations in a small specialty practice
- EFDA certification (state‑appropriate)
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control, and chairside assisting techniques
- X‑ray certification and proficiency in dental imaging required
- Familiarity with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic
, or similar EMR platforms preferred - Prior experience in endodontics or other dental specialties is strongly preferred
- Comfort working in a dual‑role position that supports both clinical and administrative functions
- Strong reliability, adaptability, and teamwork mindset
