Middle School Associate Principal
Position SummaryThe primary role of the Middle School Associate Principal is to support the lead principal in providing instructional leadership and school management, with a focus on improving student achievement and ensuring the health, safety, and well‑being of all students and staff. The associate principal assists in implementing high‑quality instructional practices, monitoring academic progress, developing and managing the master schedule, managing daily school operations, fostering a positive school culture, and supporting staff development.
They build strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the community while helping to maintain an organized, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
Grade 17; 12‑month administrative (Chapter 279) contract. Exempt wage/Hour status.
Reports to:
Building Principal.
- Minimum five years of successful teaching experience in a secondary setting (preferred).
- Master’s degree in Education, Education Administration, or related field.
- Iowa Professional Administrative license issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE).
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills with students, staff, families, and community partners.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey expectations, provide feedback, and support consistent messaging across the school.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills, with the ability to address sensitive or complex situations fairly, timely, and professionally.
- Ability to collaborate closely with the principal while providing leadership and support to teachers, staff, and school‑wide initiatives.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and follow‑through skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and operational needs.
- Adaptability and resilience, maintaining composure and sound judgment when responding to changing demands, student needs, or unexpected challenges.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture that reflects high expectations for students and staff.
- Ability to motivate, coach, and support staff to strengthen instructional practices, student engagement, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Demonstrated empathy, active listening, and responsiveness to students, families, staff, and the school community.
- Instructional Leadership: Contribute to the overall leadership and management of instructional programs; assist with staff coordination and implement district curriculum and instructional models with fidelity; supervise, monitor, coach, and evaluate staff; support professional development.
- School Operations & Safety: Manage organizational systems and resources for a safe, high‑performing learning environment; assist with hiring, onboarding, and assigning staff; support master schedule development; inspect facilities and address maintenance; uphold student handbook.
- Student Support & Compliance: Ensure compliance and alignment of special education, English Learning, 504 and other essential programs; confer with parents and staff on educational activities and student behavioral or learning issues.
- Community & Family Engagement: Collaborate with families and stakeholders to mobilize community resources; promote positive school/community relations by articulating the mission and fostering rapport.
- Attendance & Reliability: Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance; maintain punctuality and professionalism; coordinate coverage during absences or peak periods.
