The Commissioning Technician provides commissioning support for projects entering or already under commissioning jurisdiction, troubleshooting and diagnosing faulted equipment such as inverters and PV tracking systems, and coordinating on‑site activities. The role may serve as the lead commissioning representative, managing schedules, ensuring safety, and training subcontractors and vendors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES- Work under direct supervision while performing commissioning activities.
- Maintain documentation for all equipment and systems required on projects.
- Participate in daily/weekly progress meetings with subcontractors.
- Assist in preparing plans at the beginning of projects for receiving, storing, and managing materials.
- Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment.
- Provide training to subcontractors and 3rd‑party vendors, including LOTO and Energized Zone Training.
- Maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists and LOTO logs.
- Coordinate and perform field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment and develop methods of procedure (MOPs).
- Assist in startup of commissioned equipment.
- Manage time and work priorities independently.
- Review and develop commissioning schedules and ensure adherence to safety in all energized areas.
- Diagnostic troubleshooting of equipment such as inverters and PV tracking systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of electrical concepts, SCADA infrastructure, and substation protection and control strategies.
- Hands‑on experience with PV systems (DC and AC components).
- Proficiency with test equipment: multimeters, clamp‑style ammeters, insulation resistance testers, ground fault finders.
- Use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proven experience in utility‑scale solar, energy storage, and substation systems.
- Understanding of substation protection and control strategies.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Highly motivated, articulate, self‑driven with ability to work independently and in a team.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- NFPA 70E Certification.
- Understanding of basic electrical concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Flexible schedule and willingness to travel.
- Inverter manufacturer operation and maintenance (O&M) technician certifications.
