SENIOR HV/BESS ESTIMATION MANAGER

Hanwha Qcells USA Corp (Qcells USA) is a leading utility‑scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) provider based in Irvine, CA. The Senior HV/BESS Estimation Manager will lead a team of estimators and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and suppliers to deliver accurate cost estimates, bids, and submittals for high‑voltage substations and BESS projects.

JOB SUMMARY

Develop and manage cost models, produce firm bid documents, perform take‑offs, scope reviews, risk identification, and resource planning. Ensure estimates are realistic, competitive, and aligned with company objectives while maintaining profitability and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and Management
  • Lead a team of estimators, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deadlines.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve estimation efficiency and accuracy.
  • Conduct regular meetings to review progress, address challenges, and provide feedback.
Cost Estimation
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for high‑voltage substations and BESS projects.
  • Analyze project specifications and drawings to determine scope and requirements.
  • Use historical data, benchmarks, and market trends to ensure realistic estimates.
  • Review and validate subcontractor bids and quotations.
Resource Planning
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop resource plans based on estimated costs.
  • Identify and quantify resource requirements for manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maximize efficiency and minimize risks.
  • Develop labor productivity metrics and installation unit costs based on site conditions.
Risk Management
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates.
  • Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses to assess impact on costs and profitability.
Bid Preparation
  • Prepare comprehensive bid proposals in response to RFPs and ITBs.
  • Ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with business development to develop pricing strategies.
  • Participate in bid review meetings.
Vendor and Supplier Management
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Negotiate pricing agreements to achieve cost savings.
Quality Assurance
  • Review estimates for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
  • Implement QA processes to validate estimates and identify improvements.
  • Understand EPC contracting, electrical theory, environmental, geotechnical, and hydrological reports.
  • Keep up‑to‑date on local building codes and develop project directives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% as required.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant college/technical certification (or 6+ years of relevant experience).
  • 8+ years of estimating and project management experience, including 3+ years in utility‑scale solar, HV, and BESS projects.
  • Background in commercial construction, electrical equipment supply, or power plant engineering.
  • Strong understanding of utility solar and battery storage installation best practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; proficient in cost estimation software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid, Smartsheet, Procore).
  • Self‑motivated, highly organized, and detail‑oriented.
  • Assertive and adaptable in dynamic environments.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Stationary position for up to 90% of time; sitting up to 8 hours/day.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, walking, and light lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequent communication and use of visual tools.
  • Occasional stair climbing.
  • Travel up to 25%.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Professional office setting with low to moderate noise.
  • Construction sites may have moderate to high noise.
  • Role may transition to onsite or hybrid arrangement as needed.
