Laboratory Technician – Genotyping (3rd Shift)
This role supports daily operations in a genotyping laboratory by ensuring smooth workflow, maintaining a clean and orderly workspace, and performing essential laboratory tasks. The laboratory technician prepares buffers and reagents, manages sample intake and labeling, maintains labware inventory, and operates and troubleshoots equipment used for genotyping production. The position requires strict adherence to safety guidelines, standard operating procedures, and documentation practices while collaborating effectively with multiple supervisors and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead general laboratory operations by maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of the workspace to support efficient daily activities.
- Receive incoming samples, verify information, and accurately label samples to ensure proper tracking and handling throughout the genotyping process.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of labware by monitoring stock levels, receiving supplies, and organizing materials to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Prepare buffers, reagents, and other solutions according to established protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Operate equipment required for genotyping production in accordance with workflow guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
- Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment as needed to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production output.
- Review task-related documents for accuracy and completeness, ensuring they meet established standards and regulatory requirements.
- Archive task-related documents in an organized and secure manner to support traceability and compliance.
- Understand, follow, and promote Employee Safety and Health (ESH) guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and workflow guidelines to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
- Work effectively with more than one supervisor by communicating progress, challenges, and needs in a clear and timely manner.
- Interface and collaborate with other functions, including manufacturing and research personnel, to support shared goals and smooth operational handoffs.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment with an understanding of basic laboratory practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of chemistry, biology, and microbiology principles relevant to laboratory operations and genotyping processes.
- Ability to prepare buffers, reagents, and other solutions accurately by following written protocols and SOPs.
- Competence in operating laboratory equipment and instruments used in genotyping production.
- Ability to troubleshoot common issues with laboratory equipment and processes to maintain workflow continuity.
- Strong attention to detail when receiving, labeling, and handling samples and when reviewing and archiving documentation.
- Ability to follow Employee Safety and Health (ESH) guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and workflow guidelines consistently.
- Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain an orderly workspace.
- Strong communication skills to work with multiple supervisors and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Academic or practical background in chemistry, biology, or microbiology.
- Experience supporting genotyping or similar production laboratory environments.
- Familiarity with documentation practices in regulated or process-driven laboratory settings.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work requirements in a dynamic laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with manufacturing and research personnel on shared projects and workflows.
Work Environment
