The RoleWe're looking for a TCG Department Specialist to help lead and elevate our Trading Card Game department at our Ankeny store. This role is ideal for someone with advanced knowledge across the major TCGs and deep, specialized expertise in at least one game.
While your primary focus will be TCG operations, inventory, and customer experience, you'll also support general store operations and work closely with the rest of the team to maintain a high standard across the shop.
Primary Responsibilities (TCG-Focused)- Manage and organize TCG inventory (singles and sealed product)
- Process buy-ins and price cards based on condition and market
- Authenticate cards and spot counterfeits
- Help customers with deck building, upgrades, and strategy
- Stay current on metas, ban lists, and new releases
- Support tournaments and in-store events
- Provide excellent customer service across all departments
- Run the register and process transactions
- Maintain store organization and cleanliness
- Assist with receiving and stocking inventory
- Help with opening/closing duties as scheduled
- Advanced knowledge of Magic, Pokémon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!
- Expert-level specialization in at least one TCG
- Understanding of card grading, pricing, and authentication
- Experience with TCG marketplaces and price tools
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 lbs
- Knowledge of additional TCGs
- Tournament judging or event organization experience
- Previous local game store experience
- Content creation (deck techs, pack openings, social media, etc.)
- Experience with TCG inventory management systems
- Experience helping grow or manage a TCG community
- Retail and POS system experience
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Ability to climb ladders and reach overhead shelving
- Ability to bend and stoop to stock lower shelves
- Manual dexterity for handling cards and small items
- Weekday availability required
- Availability for evenings and weekends
