Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Royalty Accounting team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is an amazing opportunity to work on royalty accounting for educational market databases, content subscriptions, publisher agreements, usage reporting, and royalty calculations. The team is made up of 8 individuals and reports to the Manager, Accounting. The team has a great skill set in royalty accounting, reconciliations, publisher reporting, and financial analysis.

We would love to speak with you if you have strong experience in Microsoft Excel, GAAP, royalty accounting, reconciliations, and working with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2+ years of accounting, finance, royalty accounting, or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including LOOKUP formulas, pivot tables, and macros.
  • 1+ year experience analyzing, comparing, evaluating, and reconciling data.
  • Knowledge of AI applications in Finance (preferred).
  • Experience supporting publisher, content provider, royalty, subscription, or contract‑based accounting processes.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to perform complex arithmetic and algebraic calculations.
  • Experience working with internal departments and external business partners or customers.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret royalty agreements, including terms, conditions, and calculations needed for timely and accurate service.
  • Calculate and document monthly and annual reconciliations for royalty accounts.
  • Assist with evaluating the accuracy of royalty accruals in accordance with publisher contractual agreements.
  • Support process improvements that help maintain accurate tracking, calculating, and reporting of publisher royalties.
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute royalty reports to publishers and content providers, including evaluating trends.
  • Assist with audit requests by pulling information and documentation.
  • Support the distribution of royalty, guarantee, and advance payments to publishers and other content providers.
  • Cross‑train on analytical functions within the department to support flexibility across the Royalty Analyst team.
  • Assist with implementing royalty accounting procedures and controls.
  • Complete work in a cost‑effective manner and perform other related duties as needed.
About the Role

In this role, you will support royalty accounting tied to educational market databases and content subscriptions. The team pulls together content through different periodicals and subject‑matter areas, gathers usage data, connects that usage to revenue, and applies contracted royalty rates to ensure accurate payments and reporting for publishers and content providers. This is long‑lifecycle work, giving you the opportunity to touch multiple parts of the royalty process from calculation and reconciliation to reporting, audit support, and payment distribution.

You will interface with many internal departments and can build relationships with publishing companies and content providers. The work is varied, detail‑oriented, and relationship‑driven, with strong training and mentorship available from a team with deep experience.

Hours

This is a full‑time hybrid position based in Ann Arbor. The role works Monday through Friday and is currently expected to be in office 3 days per week.
