Job Summary
The Museum of Paleontology in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts currently has an opening for a part-time (70% - 28 hours/week) Administrative Assistant Senior position with primary duties related to administrative support, collections and publications compliance, and museum outreach and communications work. If workload demands increase and College funding permits, this position may be eligible for full-time work in the future.
Administrative offices and faculty labs, offices, and museum collections are located on the central campus in the Biological Sciences Building (BSB) and in the Research Museums Center (RMC) on Varsity Drive. This position will primarily be in the BSB on central campus, but may occasionally have duties in the RMC. A regularly scheduled shuttle service between the two buildings is available.
This position works Monday through Friday and may work on campus or hybrid (both remote and on campus).
This is a year-round position that reports to the museum's Operations Administrator and works closely with the museum Director, curators, staff, and students.
Mission Statement
The mission of the University of Michigan is to serve the people of Michigan and the world through preeminence in creating, communicating, preserving and applying knowledge, art, and academic values, and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.
Who We Are
The U-M Museum of Paleontology (UMMP) is a research museum dedicated to the study of ancient life, environments, and how they have changed over time. We take an interdisciplinary approach to research in our collections, facilities, and across the globe. UMMP facilities and personnel are distributed between multiple buildings. Our core asset is a collection of over 4 million objects used primarily for research;
our collections are not open to the public. However, many UMMP specimens are on display at the U-M Museum of Natural History, which is free and open to the public. The popular Fossil Prep Lab in the U-M Museum of Natural History is an active UMMP lab. Our faculty and students work in this space, preparing fossil specimens for our collections.
Our unit works closely with the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
