Building Inspector/Plans Examiner

SAFEbuilt has the technical expertise to provide Community Development services, and we rely on our people to deliver those services. We are seeking a talented and experienced Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to join our team. This position offers opportunities for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of assignments as part of a respected team with comprehensive resources and challenging projects.
Responsibilities- Perform field inspections during various stages of construction
- Review plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Perform Rental Housing inspections in accordance with municipal ordinances and regulations
- Report violations and maintain files/records
- Perform other related duties as required
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures and technology
- Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
- Ability to positively interact with staff, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment
- Ability to prioritize and execute assignments with limited supervision
- Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously
- Michigan Building Inspector license required
- Michigan Building Plans Examiner license preferred
- Additional Michigan licenses are a plus
- Experience in municipal code inspections preferred
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record required
