Responsibilities*
  • Maintains comprehensive oversight of Faculty, Guest, and Department recitals and masterclasses, including stage management, additional staffing, logistics, and equipment needs.
    • Collects and gathers information from faculty contacts and distributes information to the relevant offices (including, but not limited to: the Live Streaming Specialist, the Recording Engineer, and staff in the Piano Technology Department).
    • Assesses the requested needs for each event, escalating more complex events to the relevant departmental managers.
  • Manages the setup, strike, and allocation of SMTD equipment for other non-supported events, including:
    • Venue equipment (rehearsal chairs, music stands, etc.)
    • In hall projector and wireless microphone support
    • Performance hall pianos
    • Audience seating (Hankinson Rehearsal Hall)
    • Choral risers (Stamps Auditorium)
  • During the academic year, provides onsite support for Faculty, Guest, and Department recitals and masterclasses during daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Working hours are determined by the event schedule and are flexible aside from events. The schedule is set and determined 1 month in advance.
  • During the spring-summer semester, provides onsite support and information collection for the public performances held by the MPULSE Summer Institutes.
  • Manages the ticketing communications and distribution for the SMTD Commencement ceremony at the end of the Winter term.
  • Works with the chamber faculty to post chamber rosters, performances, and forum schedules at the beginning of each term and updates any adjustments throughout the academic year.
  • Ensures that performance and rehearsal spaces are used as scheduled and in accordance with SMTD policies and procedures.
  • Promotes the proper use and care of venue equipment, furnishings, and production inventory.
  • Reports venue damage, maintenance concerns, safety issues, and repair or replacement needs to the appropriate manager.
  • Assist the Production Manager for Ticketed Events & Small Ensembles with large-scale productions, both in planning and onsite, as needed.
STUDENT STAFF SUPERVISION (30%)
  • In coordination with the Production Manager for Ticketed Events & Small Ensembles and other departmental staff-recruits, trains, and supervises student employees of the Concerts & Events Office.
  • Directly oversees, trains, and schedules the 9-12 Reception Crew student staff who operate the Concerts & Events Office reception desk from 9am-9pm, 7 days a week.
  • Oversees members of the Concert Crew onsite for Faculty, Guest, and Department recitals and masterclasses that require additional support.
    • Assess staffing needs for all supported Faculty, Guest, and Department recitals and masterclasses and communicates those needs to the Production Manager for Ticketed Events & Small Ensembles for scheduling.
  • For events that the Faculty Events Coordinator supervises but is not present for, communicates all event details and logistics to assigned student Stage Managers.
  • Develops and updates student employee training materials, operating guidelines, and position-specific resources.
INVENTORY CHECKOUT MANAGEMENT (10%)
  • Oversees designated SMTD checkout inventories and provides authorized access to departmental resources, including:
    • Piano Keys
    • Live streaming and Recording Equipment
    • Keyboards and Amps
    • Additional IT Equipment
  • Manages reservations in Cheqroom, approving usage of special equipment as needed.
  • For other distributed items and equipment not listed in Cheqroom, communicates pickup timing and procedures to Reception Crew staff. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Ensemble Sheet Music
    • Auxiliary Clarinets
    • Keys to the Concerts & Events Van
Required Qualifications *
  • Two years of professional stage management or performing arts event production experience is required
  • At least one year of demonstrated experience with leadership of peers or employees in a performing arts academic institution or other professional arts organization
