Overview

Immigration Specialist — Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL

Salary: $3,810 - $4,191 per month (antici pated starting salary $3,810).

Job type:
Full-time, Permanent staff in a college/university setting. Appointment:
As soon as possible. Closing date:
March 1, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact for international students and faculty.
  • Supervise the tracking of international students and scholars in the SEVIS system.
  • Advise international students and scholars on visa-related issues.
  • Direct and facilitate WIU compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and policies.
  • Act as senior immigration adviser and SEVIS trainer.
  • Responsible for pre-enrollment advising and academic admission for international students.
  • Interpret U.S. immigration regulations; serve as consultant on F-1 and J-1 visas.
  • Facilitate and sign immigration documents as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) or Responsible Officer (RO).
  • Note:

    This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. citizen or possess legal permanent resident status.
Qualifications
  • One (1) year (12 months) of responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment or international student admissions.
  • Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months):
  • Progressively more responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment, or international student admissions.
  • College coursework leading to a major in business administration, education administration, social/behavioral sciences, foreign language, or related to foreign affairs/service.
  • 60 semester hours = 1 year (12 months)
  • 90 semester hours = 2 years (24 months)
  • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's degree = 3 years (36 months)

Note:

A Master’s degree in Education Administration, Counseling, International Relations, International Development, Cross Cultural Communication or Communications meets Credential #2.
