Overview
CAN has numerous community centers that provide after-school programs serving middle and high school aged youth. We work with kids in Kindergarten to 12th grade in our educational programs. The Teen Program Development VISTA will develop a teen-specific program infrastructure designed to be implemented by other program staff at various CAN teen programs for CAN’s at-risk youth. This program is to help increase high school graduation and post-secondary education opportunities.
This will include observing other teen programs in the area, identifying best practices, and designing a curriculum along with necessary training modules. The member will evaluate and make changes to the program to increase its impact. They will also help the agency problem-solve how to maintain the teen program developed after the end of their service term.

The Teen Program Lead VISTA plays a significant role in increasing the capacity of CAN’s educational services. CAN currently has teens in CAN's education programs, but CAN does not have a dedicated program or curriculum to meet their needs. This VISTA will learn about past and current teen engagement, connect and interview CAN teens, research teen engagement, and shadow other teen programs in the area.
They may create a Youth Council to collaboratively plan an impactful program with the teens. The VISTA will utilize all of their gathered knowledge to develop and implement a teen program that operates in our after school programs. This role requires initiative, problem-solving, and flexibility. The VISTA will collaborate with and be supported by a large team of directors.
