Position Summary:

Note:

This is a temporary full-time position scheduledthrough the Winter 2026 semester only (Ends on May 7, 2026), to provide leave coverage. The Instructional Laboratory Assistant - Welding and Fabrication is a year-round, classified faculty position responsible for supporting faculty and students in achieving academic success within the Welding and Fabrication program. Working a 40-hour week, the lab assistant will provide hands-on guidance in lab activities, demonstrations, and technical support while maintaining lab safety and ensuring the proper operation of equipment and resources.

Additionally, this role assists with student recruitment and retention efforts, fostering an environment that promotes learning, skill development, and career readiness.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional and Student Support:
• Demonstrate and guide students through welding and cutting processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, SAW, PAC, CAC, OFW, OFC, soldering, and brazing.
• Observe, coach, and assist students with homework, lab assignments, and class projects to ensure proper technique and understanding of concepts.
• Provide feedback and technical support to help students achieve academic success and meet course objectives.
• Relay course objectives and instructor expectations to students as needed, ensuring clarity and alignment with the curriculum.
• Oversee student safety within the lab environment. Laboratory Setup and Maintenance:
• Set up, operate, and break down lab equipment for demonstrations and lab sessions, following instructor guidance.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment to minimize downtime and ensure functionality.
• Ensure lab and classroom environments are safe, organized, and conducive to learning by following safety protocols and guidelines.
• Assist in inventory management, including tracking and procurement of supplies through scan tools and related software.

Faculty and Program Support:
• Collaborate with faculty by supporting classroom and lab activities, creating student handouts, presentations, and assisting with assignments.
• Respond to faculty requests for technical or instructional support to enhance the learning experience.
• Mentor and track part-time workers under the direction of the supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records related to inventory, equipment maintenance, and student progress as required.

Recruitment, Outreach, and Events:
• Participate in student recruitment efforts by promoting the program during campus tours, promotional events, and visits to local high schools.
• Assist in the organization of welding competitions, open houses, and program-related events to showcase the program and student achievements.
