SUMMARY
AAPS Community Education and Recreation's Extended Day Program offers safe, fun, and enriching environments for students during the before and after school hours. High School After Care Assistants learn and work as part of a team providing programming to Young 5 through 5th grade students in this AAPS licensed before- and after-school care program. Paid training is provided.

SCHEDULE:
Afternoon shift hours are 3:15 p.m.

- 6:00 p.m. Preference will be given to high school students who can work 2 or more shifts per week.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 16 or 17 years of age
Desire to work with 5-11 year old children
Is flexible and tolerant, showing caring and respect for students
Within 3 months of hire, complete training in:
  • Child and adult CPR (certification)
  • Child and adult First Aid (certification)
Before starting, a work permit signed by parent or legal guardian
Maintain compliance with all Michigan Bureau of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) licensing requirements, including Mi Registry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Report to work at scheduled time to assist the Site Supervisor in setting up the program space.
  • Greet and interact with children
  • Assist with program activities
  • Assist in setting up the daily self-serve snack and assist children with snacks brought from home.
  • Sanitize the tables before and after each use
  • At the end of each session, assist in preparing the room(s) for the next group using the room. This may include moving tables and chairs, sweeping, wiping down tables, etc.
  • If school schedule allows, attend and participate in weekly site planning meetings and district trainings
  • Obtain and read the "Weekly Program Notes"
  • Other duties as assigned
This is a part-time position requiring regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Language Skills
  • Read, write, and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Mathematical Skills
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
Reasoning Ability
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Other Skills & Abilities
  • Apply knowledge of current child development research and techniques related to sensory issues
  • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
