Job Description
- Location:
Miami - Paygrade: 4
- Hourly rate: $17.75/hr
- Daily hours: 6.25 hrs/day
- Work hours:
8:55am - 3:40pm - Effective Fall 2026
Supports the teacher and students to ensure the best possible learning experience for special education children in a safe and secure environment while maintaining confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist an individual student one‑on‑one, small groups, or classroom under teacher supervision.
- Assist students with completing academic tasks.
- Assist in engaging students with instructional activities such as reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills.
- Assist in managing student behavior by implementing behavior management plans, including CPI training.
- Provide support in monitoring, intervening, and redirecting student behaviors; prevent and deescalate behaviors.
- Assist students with personal needs (hygiene, diapering, toileting, clothing).
- Familiarize with individual student requirements and behavior plans.
- Assist in data collection related to behavior, academics, instruction, etc.
- Participate in professional development.
- Communicate with community, staff, and students to answer questions, disseminate or explain information.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations: May be required to take additional classes to address students' specific needs.
Experience:
- Experience working with children (required).
- Experience working with special education students (preferred).
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations (required).
- Working knowledge of computers (preferred).
Skills:
- Good communication skills (required).
- Adaptability to learn (required).
- Patience (required).
Abilities:
- Adapt teaching skills.
- Handle emotional and physical challenges.
- Be caring, understanding, patient, and friendly toward students.
- Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

- Physically manage student behaviors and equipment.

- Work in high-demanding, potentially stressful environment while maintaining composure.
- Complete necessary training required for job duties.
- Follow outlined behavioral management plan or instruction programs.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Frequent sitting, walking, standing, running after students; stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling up to 90 lbs; facilitating mobility and transportation; assisting with field trips.
Work EnvironmentModerate to loud noise level. Environmental conditions as described above.
