Campus Sustainability and Innovation Fellow

The University of Michigan Office of Campus Sustainability and Innovation (OCSI) serves as a focal point for sustainable campus operations and collaborates with academic and research units, auxiliaries, and student groups to further efforts toward reaching campus-wide sustainability goals.
OCSI is currently seeking a Campus as Lab (CAL) Fellow to support the Campus as Lab Program to facilitate the use of campus spaces for sustainability‑focused research and applied learning. Functions include supporting the program manager to actively collaborate with sustainability partners, develop resources for program promotion and efficiency, and assist with other administrative tasks such as project inventory management and reporting.
This position will also serve as the primary project support for multiple projects, which can be assigned based on the hire's skills and interests.
This position is intended to be a two‑year term position and comes with employment benefits of the University of Michigan. It is hybrid, with expectations of being present on‑campus 2‑3 days per week, with flexibility.
Responsibilities- Campus as Lab program support (60%)
- Collaborate with campus partners to create program resources and templates to support the selection and implementation of Campus as Lab (CAL) projects.
- Create resources and provide logistical support for outreach and engagement events.
- Help expand outreach and engagement to include students and faculty from a variety of disciplines and units, and use U‑M's campus to accelerate bringing their research to implementation.
- Create resources to help scale strategies proven on the U‑M campus as a testing ground, to expand and implement solutions regionally and globally.
- Project Support (40%)
- Serve as a liaison to students and/or faculty for specific project idea advancement. This may include assisting with background research, troubleshooting implementation barriers, and identifying partnerships that advance the project's intent. Topics may vary, and renewable energy transition is likely to be a notable focus of project work.
- GIS:
Support projects involving GIS, including efforts to improve existing and new feature classes and serve as a liaison between students and GIS staff. This may include creating and maintaining process documents to streamline the use of the GIS for CAL projects, and responding to inquiries from students and faculty to connect them to staff GIS experts.
- Recent graduation from undergraduate or graduate programs (2025 or more recent)
- Bachelor's degree in an environmental or science discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s or other supplemental coursework in natural sciences, natural resources, GIS, and/or Campus as Lab programs is strongly preferred.
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest and familiarity with renewable energy systems and energy transitions.
- Familiarity with the scientific method.

- Scripts (preferred or a willingness to learn)
- Google Earth Engine (preferred or a willingness to learn)
