Overview
Responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and supporting student success in assigned courses. Positions currently available for in‑person instruction on the central campus in Jackson, MI and at the following Correctional Education Program locations:
Gus Harrison Correctional Facility (Adrian, MI) and St. Louis Correctional Facility (St. Louis, MI). Adjunct instructor positions are part‑time. Teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester and are based on enrollment; therefore, there may be semesters where no assignments are available.
- Instruction:
Teach assigned English courses in accordance with the approved syllabus and learning outcomes. - Course Preparation:
Develop lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials aligned with departmental standards. - Assessment:
Evaluate and provide timely, constructive feedback on student work; maintain accurate grading records. - Student Support:
Respond to student communications and refer students to campus support services when appropriate. - Classroom Management:
Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment and enforce academic integrity and conduct policies. - Administrative Responsibilities:
Submit attendance, grades, and other required documentation by established deadlines. - Compliance:
Adhere to institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable federal/state regulations.
Master’s degree or higher in English or a sub‑discipline (American or British Literature, English Studies, Literary Studies/Theory, Rhetoric, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing) or in another discipline with 18 graduate hours in English. Graduate coursework must include 6 hours in writing or reading pedagogy or rhetoric and composition.
Employment and ApplicationAdjunct instructors are not employed directly by Jackson College, except for those receiving a pension from the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System. All others are employed by EDUStaff, LLC, and must complete EDUStaff’s employment application and onboarding processes.
