Position: GSI- WGS 240 (Fall 2026)

Graduate Student Instructor Position

The LSA Department of Women's and Gender Studies has GSI positions for the Fall 2026 term to lead two discussion sections for a faculty-led lecture in WGS-240 (Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies).

Successful applicants will teach two two-hour long discussion sections of 25 students each for WGS 240 under the direction of the course instructor for a 50% GSI appointment. The duties of this appointment will also include grading (per lead faculty instruction), attending all lectures, holding weekly office hours, and leading discussion sections as scheduled, which may include development of some independent lesson plans.

GSIs for the course are also expected to meet weekly with the instructional team starting the week of August 24 and to respond promptly to emails. Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the fraction calculation form. Note that both lecture and discussion sections are scheduled as in-person instruction. The employment obligations of this position also include attendance at a mandatory GSI orientation the week of August 31.

In addition, one Graduate Student Mentor (GSM) position at 13.7% is available. The GSM must be an appointed GSI for this course during the fall semester (for a total appointment of 63.7%). The GSM will perform all the duties above, as well as provide academic mentoring to students and the instructional team, facilitate student support activities, assist with course communication, support course logistics (such as maintaining course materials on Canvas, etc.)

and help the instructional team identify student needs. The mentor will work under the supervision of the course instructor and will follow all applicable course, department, and university policies, in addition to supporting an inclusive, respectful, and accessible learning environment.
