The High School Dean will assist school leadership in all matters related to student discipline, crisis management, attendance monitoring, and conflict resolution. The High School Dean is responsible for supporting the success and well‑being of all students in grades 9 through 12. This includes articulating and executing a vision for a comprehensive 9th‑grade high‑school experience; developing, implementing, and overseeing grade‑specific academic, extracurricular, and community‑building activities;

and guiding students through each stage of their high‑school journey—from transition to high school through graduation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Teaching Certificate with valid endorsement preferred.

Meet requirements for Michigan administrative certification.

Education and Experience
  • Masters Degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in supervision, administration, curriculum, or related field; or be enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school administrator not later than six months after beginning employment as required by Michigan Department of Education.
  • Three years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level or equivalent administrative experience is preferred.
  • Five years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience at the secondary level is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning, thinking, and collaboration skills; knowledge of or experience with TregoED problem‑solving processes or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of athletic programs and Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate evidence of systematic study of secondary school organization and curriculum as well as growth and development and an understanding of the secondary school student.
  • Possess the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other administrators.
  • Possess a variety of school experiences with varied racial groups, and experience in promoting gender equity in athletics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attendance monitor, oversee attendance policies, address truancy issues, and work to improve student attendance rates.
  • Collaborate with local community centers to support students.
  • Serve as a liaison between school administration, students, staff, parents, and community centers.
  • Know and support all high school students.
  • Assist the Principal in implementing and supporting the District's instructional and operational goals as articulated by the Superintendent.
  • Evaluate instructional and non‑instructional staff and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Collaborate to provide the school community leadership, vision, and direction.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, staff, and families.
  • Demonstrate a self‑reflective, innovative, anti‑racist, equity‑focused set of core beliefs.
  • Co‑create an anti‑racist, collaborative environment among staff, students, families, and the greater Ann Arbor community.
