In the Ann Arbor Public Schools, our district Equity Plan drives our staff and school community in ensuring we have an inclusive environment at each of our elementary schools, secondary schools, and district departments and divisions.
We are seeking a self-reflective, innovative, equity-focused, and visionary leader who has a core belief of seeing equity, diversity, and inclusion as our greatest asset. This leader will co-create an anti-racist, collaborative, and inclusive environment among staff, students, families, and the greater Ann Arbor community. Applicants for this leadership position should be able to share previous experiences aligned with this belief and communicate both successes and challenges they have experienced in creating equity-centered learning communities.

The High School Dean will assist school leadership in all matters related to student discipline, crisis management, attendance monitoring, and conflict resolution.

The High School Dean is responsible for supporting the success and well-being of all students in grades 9 through 12. This includes articulating and executing a vision for a comprehensive 9th-grade high school experience; developing, implementing, and overseeing grade-specific academic, extracurricular, and community-building activities; and guiding students through each stage of their high school journey—from transition to high school through graduation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Teaching Certificate with valid endorsement preferred
Meet requirements for Michigan administrative certification

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters Degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in supervision, administration, curriculum, or related field, or be enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school administrator not later than six months after beginning employment as required by Michigan Department of Education.
Three years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level or equivalent administrative experience is preferred.
Five years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience at the secondary level is preferred.
Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning, thinking, and collaboration skills; knowledge of or experience with TregoED problem-solving processes or the willingness to learn
Knowledge of athletic programs and Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations.
Demonstrate evidence of systematic study of secondary school organization and curriculum as well as growth and development and an understanding of the secondary school student.
Possess the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other administrators.
Possess a variety of school experiences with varied racial groups, and experience in promoting gender equity in athletics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attendance monitor, oversee attendance policies, address truancy issues, and work to improve student attendance rates.
Collaborate with local community centers to support students.
Serve as a liaison between school administration, students, staff, parents, and community centers.
Know and support all high school students.
Assist the Principal in implementing and supporting the District's instructional and operational goals as articulated by the Superintendent.
Evaluate instructional and non-instructional staff and make appropriate recommendations.
Collaborate to provide the school community leadership, vision, and direction.
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for student, staff, and families.
Demonstrate a self-reflective, innovative, anti-racist, equity-focused set of core beliefs.
Co-create an anti-racist, collaborative environment among staff, students, families, and the greater Ann Arbor community.
Responsible for discipline and the fostering of good conduct.
Plan and execute grade specific activities and events, such as middle school to high school transition.
Planning and executing first-year orientation for incoming 9th-grade students.
Working with grade-level counselors to coordinate support services and academic accommodations.
Coordinating and communicating disciplinary action as needed.
Attentiveness to administrative detail.
The ability to make unpopular decisions, take responsibility, and set boundaries in the face of unreasonable demands and persistent concerns.
Create and monitor student intervention plans.
Plans and implements programs designed to develop student social emotional learning.
