Lecturer I Position

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a Lecturer I position to teach various levels of Russian and South Slavic cultures to begin August 31, 2026 thru December 31, 2026. This is a 66.66% non-tenure track position for fall term, hired on a term-to-term basis, contingent upon performance, programmatic need, availability of work, and funding.

The position has the possibility of continuing and increasing up to a 100% appointment depending on the qualifications, experience, performance of the chosen candidate and funding availability.

Initial duties will include teaching Russian and South Slavic cultures for primarily undergraduate students. Additional responsibilities might include graduate advising in relevant areas of research. The position involves course preparation, in-person teaching, grading, holding office hours on campus weekly for at least two hours per week, maintaining regular contact with students through email and collaborating with other faculty to meet the needs of the program and provide enhanced cultural activities.

PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures or related field Native/near native fluency in at least one Slavic language Demonstrable expertise in historical and contemporary Eastern European cultures At least one year experience in undergraduate Humanities instruction at a North American institution Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level

Evidence of use of current technology and innovative methodologies in Humanities instruction Experience in teaching film and/or Holocaust Studies Experience teaching Central European and/or South Slavic topics
