SUMMARY:

The District Special Education Coordinator of Compliance & Supports will develop and supervise district-wide special education compliance practices as well as the support provided to both staff and students in the special and general education environments. The coordinator duties include crafting school-based procedures for all meeting compliance, developing student summer programming , and supervision of paraprofessional training and allocations.

The coordinator designs, coordinates, and/or provides training, planning and facilitating of material orders.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Ability to qualify for Administrative Certification
  • Special education teacher with at least five years of classroom experience
  • Documented successful experience working in a variety of instructional settings with special education populations in one-on-one settings in addition to small and large group instruction.
  • Experience leading district professional development pertaining to implementation of processes and procedures
  • Experience with district compliance and collaborating with district leaders and colleagues.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing district data for purposes of monitoring instruction and student learning
  • Demonstrated success working with underachieving students
  • Demonstrated skill in working with adult learners
  • Knowledge of AAPS, MDE, and IDEA policy and guidance for students with disabilities.
  • Create processes and procedures
  • Training on processes and procedures
  • Paraprofessional allocation, assignment, and fading
  • Training for paraprofessionals
  • Primary point person for compliance questions
  • Plan and coordinate summer programming
  • Facilitate Change of Level process
  • Manage and support referral process for elementary special education programs
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Council

Other duties as assigned

This is a full time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

LANGUAGE

SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, andfundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical ordiagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
