Electrical Engineering, Research Scientist

This position offers the opportunity to influence global communication standards, lead innovative research projects, collaborate with world-class partners, and publish impactful academic work, all while being based at our Mountain View, California site.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to global 3
GPP standardization efforts - Develop and submit technical contributions to 3
GPP RAN1, RAN2, and/or RAN working groups - Attend, participate in, and influence 3
GPP standardization meetings - Create invention disclosures and support intellectual property development
- Propose, lead, and execute research projects focused on communication technologies for connected mobility
- Conduct research and development in collaboration with internal teams and external partners
- Author academic publications aligned with project outcomes and research maturity
- Present research progress and results to technical leadership and management on a regular basis
- Contribute to additional standardization activities as needed, including organizations such as SAE, ETSI, and IEEE 802
- Support and participate in other advanced research initiatives within the R&D organization
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to attend standardization meetings
- Approximately 5 trips per year
- Typical destinations include Asia (Japan, Korea, India) and Europe
- Travel duration is typically one week per trip
- This role is based onsite at our Mountain View, California location
- Strong research and development background in wireless communications, preferably in vehicular or mobility-focused environments
- Deep understanding of wireless communication systems at Layer 1 and Layer 2
- Solid knowledge of 4G LTE and 5G , including hands-on familiarity with 3
GPP standardization processes - Proven experience authoring and submitting 3
GPP technical contributions, ideally within the RAN1 working group - Curiosity and capability to explore and develop expertise in new research areas
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple parallel efforts
- Clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communication skills, with sensitivity to international and multicultural audiences
- Ability to work independently while thriving in a highly collaborative, high-performing team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, adaptable approach to communication in all situations
