Overview

The Designer I will be responsible for the design, development, and release of design models and prints for battery cells, modules and packs for customized applications in the government, military, aerospace, and other specialty, high-performance market segments. This position will be the lead of model design and BOM creation from concept design phase through successful production launch. This position requires the ability to read instructions represented in manuals and follow these instructions.

This position exists in a temperature-controlled environment.

Responsibilities
  • Read and comprehend instructions and follow established procedures
  • Generate innovative detailed design concepts
  • Check part and assembly drawings, perform and document tolerance stack-up analysis, and implement GD&T on assembly and part drawings
  • Creation of models, prints, and BOM for design in a revision-controlled state throughout the development and production launch process
  • Perform upfront FEA analysis using Solid Works Simulation software
  • Define critical characteristics and inspection criteria for incoming components, assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Support prototype supplier sourcing and technical communications
  • Support activities related to the measurement of critical characteristics internally and at suppliers.
  • Directly manage prototype part acquisition, inspection, and initial prototype assembly
  • Prepare design review packages for team review and evaluation
  • Complete design evaluations and actions items to close out design review open issues
  • Design fixtures and tooling required to support prototype builds.
  • Performs in a manner that will prevent errors and omissions.
  • Provides advisory support and assistance to the department manager as needed.
  • Responsible for meeting team targets and key performance indicators
  • Participate in activities needed to support the management functions of the team.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and operate in a safe manner
  • Physical presence on the job is essential including weekends and holidays if deemed necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree or higher in technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of design experience using Solid Works or similar CAD package

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in Solid Works CAD software
  • Proficient in the application of GD&T for component and assembly prints and specifications
  • Practical experience in the design and application of structural parts fabricated from a variety of means such as molding, casting, machining, and additive manufacturing
  • Experience in BOM management and release of drawings in a PDM or document control system
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and visual
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel
  • Battery system product development experience
  • Phase-gate style product development process experience
  • Upfront FEA experience using Silkworks Simulation tools
  • Experience in the design of product involving electrical assemblies
  • Design for Six Sigma project experience
