Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Engineer, PE to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This role will lead engineering efforts within our civil and water/wastewater design groups, delivering design engineering and construction management services for municipalities and private clients across the United States. Typical projects include water and wastewater treatment systems, stormwater management, grading, sewer and water infrastructure, regulatory evaluations, and related municipal infrastructure improvements.

Position Summary:

The Civil Engineer, PE will lead planning, design, and construction‑phase services for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role supports project delivery from concept through construction, ensuring technical quality, regulatory compliance, and coordination with internal teams, clients, and contractors.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design, including hydraulic calculations and technical analyses.
  • Prepare engineering reports, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
  • Apply standard engineering practices and ensure appropriate documentation across design deliverables.
  • Interpret specifications and drawings, recommend and document design modifications, and coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance with engineering specifications and drawings and respond to requests for information.
  • Provide resident engineer support during construction to help ensure compliance with contract documents and design intent.
  • Support client communication and coordination throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience planning and designing water and wastewater treatment, distribution/conveyance, pumping, and storage facilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, as well as scheduling programs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience serving municipal clients.
  • Familiarity with Georgia municipal regulations and permitting processes.
  • Construction administration or resident engineering experience on water/wastewater projects.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform site visits, including walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Combination of office and field environments, including active construction sites.
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions during site visits.
  • Moderate noise levels in office settings and elevated noise levels on construction sites.
