Role Summary
The Optics Engineer is responsible for designing the camera products. This includes development of the design specifications of lenses and imagers for automotive camera products.
Key Responsibilities- Development (design, implement, test and debug) of automotive camera optical systems
- Evaluate CMOS imager chips
- Tune CMOS cameras by changing imager register settings
- Work with key suppliers to develop camera multi-element lenses optimized for automotive near and far field applications
- Design camera system level specification
- Design camera test specifications
- Interface with manufacturing to ensure proper assembly and calibration
- Interface with cross-functional engineering to ensure the camera is integrated seamlessly into the ECU design
- Perform work assignments as a highly competent optics engineer, requiring independent design, implementation and testing of the optics components
- Work assignments primarily involve intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field
- Experience with specifying or designing lenses for vision camera. Experience with automotive camera lens design is a plus.
- Knowledge of CMOS imager characteristics and applications. Experience with tuning CMOS camera performance by way of imager register settings.
- Experience with vision camera system level specification, design, and testing. Understanding of vision system design trade-offs and performance-cost balance.
- Cross-discipline technical skills that are related to cameras. Understanding of camera mechanical design and packaging, electrical design, software and their impacts on optical performance.
- Experience with high volume, low cost digital camera design and manufacturing.
- Familiarity of automotive OEM camera specifications, and environmental and durability requirement specifications for automotive electronics modules.
- Demonstrated innovation track record through patents, publications and products brought into the market.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and getting things done efficiently.
- Self-motivated. Thrives on bringing structure to a highly unstructured task. Ability to see the technical direction long before others can and guides a team towards it.
- Expert communication skills. Effectively communicates with team members in a cross-functional, cross-discipline organization, as well as with customers, in both oral and written means.
- Experience with conducting optics lab experiments and optical-mechanical setup.
- Master’s degree in applied physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering or related fields
- 4-8 years’ relevant experience regarding the responsibility/activities (listed above) in serial development.
