Job SummaryThe Reactor Engineer will monitor reactor core operation and perform applicable testing, including flux mapping, start‑up physics testing, and power ascension testing.
Key Responsibilities- Develop reactivity plans for power maneuvers.
- Assist with the performance of fuel inspections.
- Provide control room support during significant power changes.
- Perform radiochemistry analysis as part of fuel performance monitoring.
- Assist with Special Nuclear Material (SNM) accountability.
- Prepare and review procedures associated with reactor core operation and nuclear fuel management.
- Technical Expertise
:
Apply analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and perform extensive analysis; recommend enhancements to business processes. - Leadership & Guidance
:
Coordinate work activities of others within the work group; provide training and guidance to lower‑level employees. - Planning & Organization
:
Forecast costs for routine projects and use scheduling techniques; initiate corrective action when objectives not met. - Problem Solving & Initiative

Resolve routine problems and seek out opportunities for improvement. - Communication
:
Develop and present technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses. - Interpersonal Skills

Understand organizational structure and budgeting/approval processes; apply economic analysis techniques; stay informed on utility regulation and financing.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent) with 2+ years of related engineering experience. Master’s, PhD, or non‑ABET bachelor’s + graduate degree acceptable. - Experience
: 2–4 years of related engineering experience for Salary Grade 7; 4–8 years for Grade 8; 6–8+ years for Grade
9. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is encouraged and preferred, required for Grade 9 unless waived. - Qualifications by Grade
:- Salary Grade 7 ($87,633 – $109,544): 2+ years experience.
- Salary Grade 8 ($98,993 – $128,689): 4+ years experience.
- Salary Grade 9 ($116,255 – $151,132): 6–8+ years experience; PE required unless waived.
- Must maintain a permanent residence within a 45‑minute safe drive to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
S – Sedentary work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; occasionally involves walking or standing for brief periods. No significant heavy lifting required.
