Role Overview

Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Engineer (P3). This hands‑on, execution‑oriented role supports product safety, regulatory compliance, and certification activities for semiconductor manufacturing equipment in Ann Arbor, MI, and other East Coast locations (NY, MA). The engineer works closely with senior product safety engineers and cross‑functional teams to integrate safety into product design and support certifications from development through product release.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Safety Compliance & Certification Support
    :
    Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable standards (SEMI S2, S8, S10; IEC 60204‑1, NFPA 79; EU Machinery Directive/Regulation; EMC and Low Voltage Directives) and CE marking deliverables (risk assessments, technical file inputs, declaration of conformity).
  • Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment
    :
    Perform hazard analyses using established methods (FMEA/FMECA, preliminary PHA, HAZOP) and support definition of risk reduction measures aligned with SEMI S10 and ISO 12100 principles.
  • Design & Engineering Support
    :
    Partner with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to review designs, integrate safety features, and participate in design reviews and change control processes.
  • Certification & Testing Coordination
    :
    Coordinate with third‑party certification and testing agencies (e.g., TÜV, UL, CSA), aid in preparing product safety evaluations and EMC/electrical testing, and track findings to closure.
  • Incident Investigation & Data Analysis
    :
    Support investigation of safety incidents and Safety Incident Reports (SIRs), contribute to root‑cause analysis, and analyze safety‑related data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Documentation & Training
    :
    Prepare and maintain safety documentation (analysis reports, test reports, compliance records), update safety sections of product manuals, and deliver product safety training.
Qualifications Minimum
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or a related engineering field.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety standards (SEMI S2 or similar), CE marking framework, hazard analysis techniques (FMEA, PHA, HAZOP).
  • Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional engineering environments.
Preferred
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment or complex industrial machinery.
  • Exposure to ISO 12100 risk assessment methodology and functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061).
  • Experience supporting compliance testing or working with certification bodies.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay Range: $ - $ Annually (primary location: USA‑MI‑Ann Arbor‑KLA).
