Position: ASST RES SCIENTIST

The Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to join our team and contribute to our pioneering research in metallurgy and manufacturing for nuclear applications. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of research projects involving manufacture and investigation of powder metallurgical alloys for nuclear reactor environments.

The role will also involve publishing and presenting research findings in top-tier scientific journals and conferences, participating in instructional activities and course lectures as appropriate, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and serving on dissertation committees.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in materials science, nuclear engineering, or a related field, with a focus on metallurgy and/or manufacturing
  • A minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral research experience in metallurgy and/or manufacturing
  • Experience with powder metallurgical techniques
  • Experience with materials characterization including SEM, TEM, and XRD
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly development, supported by multiple first-author, peer-reviewed scientific journal publications in the field of metallurgy and/or manufacturing
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong mentoring skills, with experience supervising undergraduate and graduate research projects
  • Active participation and a record of presentations at relevant academic and professional meetings
