Overview

Exedy, a well‑established global Tier 1 automotive supplier, is expanding its reach into the global agricultural and heavy‑lift drone markets. We are seeking a hands‑on Electrical Systems Engineer to support the development of next‑generation UAV platforms.

Experience
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience developing electrical systems for aerospace, robotics, automotive, industrial equipment, or similar products.
  • Experience supporting hardware from prototype development through testing and deployment.
  • UAV development experience is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Hardware Development
    • Design analog and digital schematics using KiCad (or other ECAD software).
    • Design and maintain PCB layouts.
    • Develop custom interface boards, DC‑DC converters, and sensor interface hardware as required.
    • Lead PCB bring‑up, debugging, and validation activities.
  • Electrical Systems Integration
    • Develop electrical interfaces between avionics, payloads, sensors, and power systems.
    • Integrate flight controllers, companion computers, telemetry systems, GNSS receivers, LiDARs, radars, cameras, payload controllers, and other avionics hardware.
    • Define power and data hardware architectures utilizing CAN/DroneCAN, Ethernet, UART, SPI, and I2C.
    • Support RF module selection and electrical integration.
    • Develop grounding, shielding, and electrical distribution strategies.
    • Troubleshoot electrical and hardware communication issues during integration and flight testing.
  • Wiring, Interconnect & Mechanical Integration
    • Develop aircraft wiring diagrams and harness architectures.
    • Design cable assemblies, connector interfaces, and interconnect systems.
    • Select connectors, backshells, wire gauges, shielding, and termination methods.
    • Create wiring documentation, pinouts, installation drawings, and harness release packages.
    • Collaborate closely with the Mechanical Engineering team to develop wire harness routing, installation drawings, and production release documentation.
    • Support packaging, cable routing, connector accessibility, strain relief, serviceability, and maintainability throughout the aircraft.
    • Ensure proper integration of electrical hardware, sensors, payloads, antennas, and avionics within the mechanical design.
  • Hardware Architecture & Documentation
    • Develop and maintain Hardware Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
    • Define electrical interfaces between aircraft subsystems.
    • Develop architecture diagrams, electrical schematics, and integration documentation.
    • Maintain revision‑controlled hardware documentation.
    • Support engineering change requests and technical design reviews.
  • Manufacturing & Supplier Coordination
    • Own the release of PCB assemblies, wiring harnesses, and electrical subassemblies to external manufacturing partners.
    • Develop complete manufacturing documentation, including fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, Gerbers, pick‑and‑place files, and harness documentation.
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for PCB fabricators, contract manufacturers, and harness suppliers.
    • Ensure compliance with IPC‑A‑610 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 workmanship standards.
    • Support prototype builds, first‑article inspections, and production readiness.
  • Verification, Validation & Electrical Reliability
    • Develop electrical integration and verification plans.
    • Support bench, integration, and flight testing activities.
    • Troubleshoot electrical and communication issues.
    • Evaluate grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC performance.
  • General
    • Self‑starter capable of working independently in a concept‑stage product development environment.
    • Comfortable working with evolving requirements and rapid development cycles.
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability and willingness to support flight testing activities.
    • Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
  • Technical Skills Must‑Have
    • KiCad PCB design
    • Analog and digital schematic design
    • PCB layout and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
    • Connector selection and cable design
    • Hardware Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
    • RF and communication hardware integration
    • EMI/EMC fundamentals

    • Electrical troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis
    • Technical documentation and revision control
    • Experience releasing hardware packages to external manufacturers and supporting prototype builds
    Preferred
    • UAV development experience
    • PX4 ecosystem familiarity
    • GNSS and RTK integration
    • Telemetry radio integration
    • LiDAR, radar, and sensor hardware integration
    • MATLAB or equivalent engineering analysis tools
