Mackie Myers is partnering with a growing international product-based business to appoint a Director of Finance and Accounting for its North American operations.

This confidential search comes at an important stage in the company’s development as it navigates organizational change, consolidation, and significant process improvement. The business is seeking an accomplished finance leader who can strengthen financial discipline, improve operational visibility, and build a scalable, well-controlled finance function.

This is a hands‑on leadership position with both strategic and operational responsibility. The successful candidate will oversee accounting and financial management across North America, lead and develop the finance team, and partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership.

The role requires someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with commercial judgment, leadership presence, and a practical approach. The successful candidate will be comfortable challenging established practices, leading change, and working at a detailed level when necessary.

The Role

The Director of Finance and Accounting will lead finance and accounting operations across North America, supporting the CFO in developing a more effective, integrated, and scalable finance function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading finance and accounting activities across multiple locations and business units
  • Managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning, and financial performance analysis
  • Strengthening accounting policies, internal controls, documentation, and reporting discipline
  • Supporting the consolidation and integration of North American finance operations
  • Leading, developing, and, where appropriate, restructuring finance and accounting teams
  • Partnering with operational and commercial leaders to improve decision‑making and financial visibility
  • Overseeing working capital, cash flow, receivables, deductions, rebates, and related processes
  • Improving reporting and analysis relating to inventory, margins, customer profitability, and operational performance
  • Supporting systems integration, finance transformation, and process‑improvement initiatives
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to the CFO and senior leadership team
  • Deputizing for the CFO when required
  • Overseeing audit, tax, compliance, and other finance‑related projects
  • Contributing to strategic planning, M&A readiness, and the company’s longer‑term growth agenda
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Director of Finance and Accounting, Controller, or senior finance leader with a background in a product‑based, inventory‑led environment. Experience with in manufacturing, distribution, consumer goods, medical devices, or a comparable sector would be particularly relevant.

The role requires strong accounting fundamentals, but technical expertise alone will not be sufficient. The business needs a proactive leader who can improve the way finance operates, build trust across the organization, and translate financial information into meaningful business insight.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and technical accounting
  • Experience leading finance and accounting teams across multiple locations or business units
  • A background in an inventory‑based, product‑based, manufacturing, distribution, consumer goods, medical device, or similar environment
  • Experience improving close processes, reporting quality, internal controls, and financial visibility

    Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management, and financial analysis capabilities
  • A sound understanding of inventory, receivables, deductions, rebates, margins, and working capital
  • Experience leading or supporting finance transformation, systems integration, and process‑improvement projects
  • The ability to partner effectively with senior leadership and deputize for the CFO
  • Strong people‑leadership skills and the confidence to manage change, develop teams, and raise standards
  • A commercially minded, hands‑on approach, with a willingness to work through the detail when required
