Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer (Recruit)

Motor Carrier Officers are members of the Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED). They specialize in commercial vehicles and duties include traffic enforcement, crash investigation, driver and vehicle inspections, criminal interdiction, hazardous material transport, regulatory compliance, weigh station operation, infrastructure protection, and general emergency response.

• Enforce traffic laws and regulations on commercial vehicles.
• Conduct crash investigations and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies.
• Inspect drivers and commercial vehicles for compliance with FMCSA and state regulations.
• Interdict and investigate criminal activity related to commercial transportation.
• Respond to hazardous material spills and transport incidents.
• Operate and maintain weigh stations and infrastructure protection points.
• Serve as first responders in emergency situations involving commercial vehicles.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be a United States citizen, a resident of Michigan, and at least 21 years old.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must pass the NTN Entry Level Law Enforcement exam and a baseline fitness test.
• Must have a valid physical fitness profile, including the MCOLES Pre‑Enrollment Physical Fitness Test.
• Willingness to undergo a thorough background investigation.

• Initial stipend of approximately $3,850 per month during the 6‑month academy.
• Base salary upon graduation, with potential to earn over $81,000 after 6 years.

• Paid holidays (13 per year) and a schedule prioritizing day shifts with one weekend day a month.
